Empowering Careers through Culture; My work with the Sankofa Rising Program

At Better Family Life’s Sankofa Rising Career Prep Program in St. Louis, Missouri, I've had the privilege of guiding career-seeking adults toward their professional goals by blending technical skills, soft skills, and cultural expression. As a Cultural Career Readiness Instructor, I get to do what I do best: inform, engage, and empower. Check out the video above!

Even better, I get to utilize dance and digital storytelling as dynamic tools to help learners connect with their personal and professional missions. Whether they’re transitioning into new fields or seeking more fulfilling work, our sessions focus on self-discovery, skill-building, and strategic planning—all through the lens of cultural movement and personal artistry.

One of the most powerful lessons we explore is the idea of “productive struggle.” By analyzing the journeys of unlikely entrepreneurs and community leaders, my students learn that challenges are stepping stones. Through 1:1 mentorship and small group coaching, I support learners in identifying roadblocks, developing solutions, and completing the program with clarity and confidence.

This experience has totally reinforced my mission. Promoting cultural learning and connection in personal and career development is super key, making it a powerful part of my service to communities of all backgrounds.

Ready to explore how cultural learning can help nourish your people?

If you’re an educator, employer, or organization looking to infuse culture, storytelling, and strategic mentorship into career prep, let’s connect! Together, we can equip learners with the tools to thrive in work and life.
